Acerca de Avery
My background is a mix of outdoor education, international development and project management. I hold a BA from University of Rochester where I was awarded a scholarship to continue studies in Sustainable Development.
My passion for languages is coupled with a desire to travel and experience new cultures as intimately as possible. My journey to date has included learning French, Wolof, Swahili, and Spanish.
This year I will come full circle as I pursue a double masters degree in English Studies & Multilingual & Intercultural Communication/ Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Instruction – Speciality - English as a Foreign Language

There are 3 core values that guide my teaching approach:

1. In order to learn anything there is a minimum level of engagement required. Learning a new language is no different. In this way, I tailor my English curriculum to the individual. We set goals together and create a study plan that allows the student to progress as efficiently as possible.
2. I find that students learn best and I test best when we're both having fun. I prefer to integrate learning into games and different forms of play whenever possible. The resulting comfortable atmosphere allows students to practice English without judgement or fear or making mistakes. Mistakes are a key part of learning as they offer us opportunities to provide additional context and better understand why something is the way it is.
3. It is important to know why a given student is learning English, whether to travel, study, work etc. My classes vary depending on the goals of the student as I target specific and relevant parts of the language to best prepare the student. The more practically we apply the language the more likely the student is to learn the material deeply and remember it in the future.

Conversation - 20€/hr
Typical class will include:
~40-45 minutes guided conversation.
Depending on level we will explore a variety of themes and topics using different media and role play. We may drill tenses or specific interactions that benefit the student's needs.
~10-15 minutes for grammar discussion and review if necessary
~5 minutes to track overall progress and calibrate study plan as necessary
